Rihanna slams Snapchat for making light of domestic violence
In Snapchat’s latest debacle, the social media platform’s users were shown an ad making light of domestic violence.
In response, Rihanna slammed the social media platform via Instagram, causing Snapchat Inc stocks to fall 4%.
The social media company best known for their stealth-like video clips recently featured an ad image that read, “Would you rather slap Rihanna” or “Punch Chris Brown?”
Hmm? Wow. Really?
According to the New York Times, a Snapchat spokesperson said, “We are so sorry we made the terrible mistake of allowing it through our review process. We are investigating how that happened so that we can make sure it never happens again.”
We should also note that this third party advertiser has now been blocked by Snapchat’s advertising platform.
There is one question we still have.
How relevant will Snapchat be in the coming years?
Recently, and as this New York Times article mentions, celebrities like Kylie Jenner have voiced their dismay with the social media platform.
With a single tweet Kylie Jenner said, “does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me … ugh this is so sad.”
With this single tweet that you can view here, stocks fell 7%.
Adage.com also goes into further detail about both Instagram’s and Snapchat’s recent racist GIF. Read about it here.
Either way, we just hope that all social media platforms get their shit together.
