Unplugging from work and getting a good night’s rest is more important today than ever
Sleep can affect almost every aspect in your life in many ways, which is why it’s essential.
Successful people such as Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos prioritize sleep for a reason; Bezos has said he makes sure to get eight hours of sleep every night.
Quality sleep allows you to perform at your best.
However, you won’t get that quality sleep you’re looking for unless you unplug from life. We mean totally unplug.
As we find ourselves stuck at home and checking emails more than we should, unplugging can seem like a huge challenge.
To be your best self, try these easy ways to improve your sleep and unplug while working from home.
1- Create a Routine
The first thing you should do to get good sleep and be able to effectively unplug each night is to develop a routine. This is going to be a big challenge for those that have never worked from home before.
The key to good sleep is having a consistent circadian rhythm. To achieve this, wake up and go to sleep at the same time each day.
It’s also essential that you’re getting seven to eight hours of sleep each night. This way, your body will naturally feel tired when it’s supposed to be tired, and you’ll wake up each morning feeling energized.
2- Improve Your Air Quality
One issue that might be preventing you from getting good sleep is having poor air quality in your bedroom. You can improve your home’s air quality by routinely changing your air filters, adding plants to your room, and getting an air purifier.
One of our favorite air purifiers is this Honeywell Germ-Free Cool Mist Humidifier in Black.
3- Get a New Mattress
The next easy way to improve your sleep is to get a new mattress.
If you constantly suffer from back pain or your mattress is over ten years old, consider investing in a new mattress. Think carefully about what kind you get so that you can maximize your sleeping quality.
One mattress brand that many people love are from Casper. We’ve actually tested it out for over 6 months and shelled out our own cash for it.
It’s been a great investment. It’s great to just kick back on while reading and the sleep has been amazing.
4- Avoid Blue Light
This one is going to be a huge challenge for many us. A common mistake many people make is scrolling through their phones or watching television right before bed.
Especially if you’re trying to unplug leading up to climbing into the sheets.
We’re guilty too.
What they don’t realize is that the blue light emitted from the screen hurts their sleep. A better option would be to read a book or listen to soothing music before falling asleep.
5- Stop Drinking Beforehand
A final tip to improve your sleep is to stop drinking water at least two hours before you go to bed.
By giving yourself two hours to get it all out of your system, you won’t be getting up constantly throughout the night and disrupting your own sleep.
Also, it’s probably a good idea to also take a pause here and then when it comes to pouring yourself a cocktail. Alcohol can also disrupt your sleeping habits turning your nightly slumber into a whole mess.
