Where did you grow up?
I am originally from Sydney, but I was living in London before I moved to New York.
Were you interested in fashion and style in high school? If not, when did you get the fashion bug?
As a teenager, THE FACE magazine was major inspiration for me – the art direction and photography were amazing, to me it was all very exotic.
Did you go to college or attend any training out of high school? If so, what did you study?
Of course! I studied a Fashion and Textile design in Sydney, and while I studied I worked for a bespoke shoemaker. I was 100% committed to learning as much as I could about making and designing footwear, which involved taking evening classes, working in industry and hand-making as many shoes as I could on the weekends. After graduating, I packed my bags for London.
What do you currently do for work?
I am the Designer for Jack Erwin in New York.
How long have you been in this field?
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
My job is two-fold, on the one hand I must think about the creative direction of the company as we grow, and on the other hand I want to ensure that we are making the best possible product we can. That involves obsessing over every component and process, which goes into making our shoes. Beyond designing at my desk, I spend a lot of my time in factories and tanneries in Europe, consulting with specialists and technicians. What project of work have you accomplished that you are most proud of?
I’ve worked on some fantastic projects at Alexander McQueen and Calvin Klein Collection but the best is yet to come. I think Jack Erwin has a great story to tell – we are a young company with enormous potential, and we love calling New York home.
