After 3 months of hunkering down because of the coronavirus, many New Yorkers are seriously suffering from cabin fever. Ourselves included.
There’s just one problem when it comes to searching online
When you do a search for “quick weekend getaway NYC”, there’s almost way too much information available and no site is offering up solid advice.
We spent hours searching for places to feature for this series and by the end, we were exhausted with no real leads.
Nothing out there gave us an in-depth look.
You find an article here or there that simply link you to a hotel website, but you don’t get a real behind the scenes and intimate look at the property.
So, guess what we did!

Why Lake George?
Lake George offers a great destination for family and friends. It takes roughly 4 hours to get to by car and has such a chill vibe to it. Looking for places to visit that’s good for both parents and kids? One thing that we should totally point out is that Lake George is definitely a place to visit for families. You’ll notice by all the mini-golf courses around for the kids.
What about singles?
Lucky for you, you’ll also be able to enjoy Lake George because it offers plenty of shopping, eateries, and moments to just sit back and unwind.
Where to stay?
We decided to check out the Marriot Lake George property while visiting the area. Located at 365 Canada St, Lake George, NY 12845, the property sits right smack dab in the middle of all the action. We highly recommend booking a room as far in advance as possible to ensure you lock in a Lakeview room.
The Marriott Lake George offers a unique hotel experience that is not typical of some other Courtyard properties.
First, you have to understand that the other properties in the area look a bit run-down and are much smaller in size. This property is one of the only larger corporate-owned hotels in the area and is definitely updated. The hotel’s lobby area offers an abundance of space so that guests can practice social distancing from others. The decor and setup of the property offer a cool modern vibe that feels more like a boutique hotel versus a corporate one.
What is Marriot doing to ensure the safety of its guest post-pandemic?
The average consumer is concerned about safety as society re-opens. We all want to know what measures companies are taking to ensure their guest’s safety.
First, one of the best ways we can slow the spread and not have a second resurgence is to wear masks when we cannot properly practice social distancing. If you need a quick and easy way to make a mask, watch our video here.
Second, it’s imperative that the place you lay your head is going above and beyond when it comes to safety. We’ve got to say, that is exactly what Marriot is doing.
The Marriot Lake George went above and beyond in terms of helping guests maintain 6 feet of distance, having visible cleaning procedures, and even going as far as having towels pre-packaged so you’re the first to touch.
According to President and CEO of Marriott International, Arne Sorenson, is ensuring that his company is doing whatever they can to ensure they maintained a commitment to cleanliness.

Below is an overview of the key components of Marriott’s Commitment to Cleanliness
Marriott Global Cleanliness Council: Consisting of in-house and outside experts in food and water safety, hygiene and infection prevention, and hotel operations, the council will work to develop a new generation of global hospitality cleanliness standards, norms and behaviors for our more than 7,300 properties around the globe.
New Cleaning Technologies: While our council develops its work, we have initiated plans to roll out enhanced technologies at our properties over the next few months, including electrostatic sprayers and the highest classification of disinfectants recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization to sanitize surfaces throughout hotels.
Cleaning Regimen Changes: When guests check into our hotels over the next few months, they will notice a number of additions to our cleaning regimen designed to set an even higher standard of cleanliness for the hotels as well as modifications to associate-guest protocols developed to be consistent with recommended social distancing guidelines.

Areas of the property to check out
If you do decide to take a chance at the Marriot Lake George, there are a few spots on-site that you must check out.
1. The downstairs lobby fireplace
Tucked behind the check-in area, there’s a cool copper fireplace setup that guests can enjoy. This area is a great spot to send a couple of emails, read a book, or eat a quick bite. This is also where you’ll find the office area but be warned that it’s in a more public format versus its own hideaway office.
2. The rooftop
The hotels rooftop offers another fantastic place to soak in the views. Since the hotel sits right across from Lake George, the vantage point of this rooftop gives you unparalleled views of the lake.
When visiting, we literally went upstairs to eat lunch every day since it had plenty of space to keep 6 feet apart, but safely be amongst other human beings.
3. Your Balcony
So, remember how we said that you need to stay in one of the property’s Lakeview rooms with a balcony?
Yeah, well now is your time to truly enjoy it. We legit lived on the balcony during our entire trip. Forget the spacious room. We sipped our morning coffee, ate dinner, and drank some beer while enjoying our private balcony that overlooked the lake.
